When Is The Best Time To Replace My Roof in 2021?

The need to replace your existing roof will definitely arise at one point or the other. There are numerous reasons for replacing a roof. One such reason is if the roof has exceeded its lifetime and few granules are found on the shingles. Also, you may wish to upgrade to an architectural shingle if you use a shingle that lays flat.

Regardless of the reason why you need to get your roof replaced, you may end up asking yourself “when is the best time to replace my roof?” Well, below are answers to this question.

  • Spring Season
Most construction picks up during the spring due to these reasons:
    • Lots of money is spent on gifts and parties during the holiday season and before the New Year. As a result, most people can’t afford a new roof during the winter. Many times people will wait until spring to get a new roof.
    • During winter, most people are reluctant to get a new roof and become involved in other exterior construction due to the snow and cold weather. As a result, most people wait until spring. This is often the best approach.
    • During spring, people get back on their feet financially. They also get tax refunds and are no longer bothered about the cold weather or snow. As a result, the spring construction rush starts.

If possible, it is advised to avoid replacing your roof until May.

  • Summer Season
Shortly after the spring rush, most jobs are completed. Although summer is a slow time for roofers, it is also a steady season. The summer season is the best time to replace your roof. This is because many people go on summer vacations coupled with holidays such as Memorial Day, Labor Day and Independence Day, which prevent most people from completing any major construction projects during this period.

Replacement of a roof can be scheduled between the 4th of July and Labor Day.

  • Winter Season
If you use a roofing material or you are in a geographical location that gives room for installing a roof during the winter, then this is the best time to get it done. Most roofers are in dire need of work during winter. As a result, they lower their fees during this season. You can and should take advantage of this reduction in price.

It’s important to note, however that there are some limitations to this approach. You should not install or replace shingles during winter. This is because the shingles sealing strip will not adhere properly. This can lead to invisible cracks in the shingles, thereby reducing the lifespan of the roof.

It’s really good to know that summer is a slow season for roofers, which means I should be able to get a booking relatively easily. I’m planning on getting our roof changed since there’s already some considerable wear and tear it’s gained from the years. I’d like to get it changed while we’re out on summer vacation, that way it won’t be a bother to us and once we’ll be greeted by a newly placed roof when we get back home.

Thank you for helping me to understand that shingles shouldn’t be replaced during the winter. There are some shingles on my roof that look like they are sagging, so I would like to have a roofer replace them. I will have to wait a couple of months so that I can have the shingles replaced in the spring.
